We're back with our 'D' installment of Datavo's Business Leaders Attributes by Letter series. You can catch up by reading 7 Clever 'C' Characteristics of Confident Leaders.
Let's get started with the 'D's....
Dependable
Being dependable makes your coworkers and employees respect you more. When people know you are going to be there when they need you they feel more comfortable. Being depended on will also make you more fulfilled.
Diplomatic
Mediocre leaders understand that being diplomatic can be like walking a tight rope at times but great leaders have mastered the art of diplomacy. By not being overly defensive or immediately offensive you are able to see the big picture and get people to seek resolutions with the least compromise from all parties involved.
Decisive
People on your team want to know that you will not waffle back and forth when making important decisions. Making well informed decisions and sticking to them makes a leader stick out.
Dynamic
Great leaders give off great energy. Being listless or talking in a monotone voice will not get people to pay attention to you. You have to project and command peoples attention and respect.
Daring
A great leaders knows when to take risks and when not to. Set yourself apart from the pack by not being ordinary.
Diligent
When you team knows that you are diligent with your work they will follow suit. Being attentive to your work and employees will earn you more respect.
Delightful
It's not necessary for you to have a delightful position to be a great leader but it will help. I've always love the saying you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar. People will be more willing to follow you lead if they like you.
To end the list, lets go over 7 'D' words that a dynamic leader would never want to be - diabolical, dull, dubious, despicable, degenerate, destructive, or deluded.
Feel free to leave any words you think we left off or would have on your own list in the comments. Make sure to look out for our next list of 'E' adjectives.

Agoura Hills - A Brief History
Panorama of Agoura Hills and Westlake Village with Ballard Mountain prominent as the leftmost peak in the image. |
Datavo is now located in sunny Agoura Hills, California so we thought we would give you a brief history of our new town!
The area now known as Agoura Hills was inhabited for many hundreds of years by the Chumash tribe of Native Americans. Very few of them lived in the area permanently since it was much easier to get year around food closer to the shore, but during the autumn some would camp out, collect acorns, and hunt different animals such as deer and rabbit.
Explorers from Spain visited California in the 1500's and 1600's for brief periods of time. It wasn't until the end of the 1700's when the Spanish missinaires built the El Camino Real (also known as the King's Highway) connecting all of their missions through out Alta California that the people were here to stay. The road went right through the middle of what is Agoura Hills today.
In 1800, the Spanish King granted Miguel Ortega a land grant called Rancho Las Virgenes - covering 17,000 acres, which was abandoned after his death in 1810. It was then given to Jose Maria Dominguez as a Mexican land grant in 1834. During this time agriculture played a big role in the history of the city. In 1845 the ranch was purchased by Maria Antonia Machado de Reyes. (The Reyes Adobe Museum was opened in 2004 and is located in central Agoura Hills and includes the city's oldest building.)
Agoura Hills is a picturesque area and by the early 1900's it was a popular stop along the Camino Real due to the natural springs at the foot of Ladyface Mountain. As a testament to the areas beauty, by the 1920's the city was briefly known as Picture City due to Paramount Pictures owning a ranch in the area that was used to film numerous Westerns. The name Agoura Hills came about because the residents were required to pick a one-word name, and in 1927 chose the shortest named suggested: a misspelling of Pierre Agoure's last name, who was a Frenchman that settled in the area in 1871.
During the 1960's Agoura Hills saw a surge in population once the Ventura Freeway section of Highway 101 was built right through the city's heart separating the north and the south sides of the city from each other. The growth continued through the 1970's when schools and the downtown section of the city were erected.
In 1982, Agoura Hills received its cityhood, becoming the 83rd city in Los Angeles County. Throughout the 1990's the city saw more growth and many businesses setting up shop, with downtown filled with shops and restaurants. The 90's also brought the live music scene to the city and many well known bands such as Linkin Park, Incubus, Hoobastank, Dead by Sunrise, and Fort Minor originated from here.
Today, Agoura Hills is a diverse family community with numerous hiking trails, biking trails, public and private country clubs, tennis, swimming, boating, libraries, nightlife, restaurants, quality medical facilities and neighborhood events.

6 Notable Ways to be Likeable
Likability will help you leaps and bounds in your job, business, personal relationships and just life in general. Here at Datavo we decided to put a list of important essentials together for you to incorporate into your work and life to be more likable.
1. Listen
Listening is the foundation of any good communication. Successful business leaders listen to their customers to find what challenges they are facing. They listen to colleagues and employees and accept new ideas.
2. Team Player
There is no I in team and no matter what size your business is you interact with other people everyday. Encouraging innovation, letting others shine, and following others rules for working in a team will help you become more likable with your employees and coworkers.
3. Adaptability
With technology changing the face of the marketplace faster than anytime previous, leaders must be flexible in all areas of their business. Being stubborn and against change will see you left behind.
4. Authenticity
Be who you say you are. People want authentic people to succeed and are more willing to help them to do so. There used to be a much larger divide between a persons public life and private life but social media has blurred the line. Being authentic makes it much easier to merge your personal and professional life online.
5. Be Grateful
Likable leaders are always grateful for the people that work under them and contribute to their success. Showing appreciation and saying thank you to customers, employees, colleagues, mentors, and others will keep you appreciated, humble and well liked.
6. Treat Others the Way You Want to be Treated
When you give people the same courtesy and respect that you expect from them, you will receive more respect and admiration from employes, collegues, friends and family. When people feel respected they are more willing to work with you.
Feel free to leave out any notable ways you know of to be likable.
